Help!

So, I sort of became an aunt last night. I say sort of because my sister surely didn't have a baby, but my cousin-in-law did - and our families are so close that I think aunt is a fitting title. Anyhow, I need help choosing books for this little one!

I have a hard enough time finding books for kindergartners that I am just completely clueless when it comes to baby books. I know that board books are in, especially textured ones. Simple pictures. Not a lot of text. I guess? I really don't know.

Please offer your suggestions of favorite books for babies!

Natalie

There's a great book called On the Day You Were Born. It's an awesome book. I've given it a couple of times to newbies. Congratulations!

On the Day you Were Born is fabulous ... My now 9-year-old still loves Time for Bed by Mem Fox.

Time for Bed is a great choice. I also love Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. Also Winnie-the-Pooh would be great. There are a ton of great board books available now. Congratulations!!

Congratulations! While I don't have any titles to suggest off the top of my head, I'd look at some cloth books too. There's a big possibility of there being a chewing phase before there is a look-at-books phase. :) I picked up a couple cute ones for my "niece" the other day at my local farmers market, but you should be able to find some at the bookstore or baby store (of the Gap or Babies r'Us variety) as well.

Thanks - I think I'll just have to spend some time in my bookstore and see what they have. I never thought about cloth books. I'll be sure to look for some!

I really like Michel Blake's board books from Candlewick - simple photographs with slightly textured edges. You can't go wrong with classics like Pat the Bunny and The Hungry Caterpillar either. Leslie Patricelli has a great line of board books too - fun for parent and child.

Jamberry and Dinosaur Roar! are probably my personal favorites from this list. Congratulations and enjoy!
