Library Loot - March 3-9, 2010

Library Loot
Library Loot is a weekly meme hosted by Eva at A Striped Armchair and Marg at ReadingAdvenures. It encourages bloggers to share what they've scored at the library that week. This week's loot is collected at Eva's blog.

I have a library addiction. I'm a big fan of my library's website (though I don't love their catalog), so I request most of my books while sitting here reading blogs, and like magic, they appear on a shelf at the library with my name on them. Yes, I'm a lazy library user. Generally, I have at least a dozen books/DVDs requested, thinking that they won't all arrive at the same time.

They all arrived at the same time. I nearly fell down at the sight of these beauties waiting for me to pick them up and take them to their new temporary home.

Gone by Lisa McMann
The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
Aurelia by Anne Osterlund
My Life in France by Julia Child

Ahh, where do I begin!? Do I really betray Going Bovine and start one of these instead? I've already given up on The Eyre Affair, after getting more than halfway through the book! I do like it, but I don't really care for where the story is going. It's more about the quirkiness of the world and the literary allusions, and I'm just not in the mood for that at the moment. But one of those books up there, oh, how can I choose?

I also visited another library today, where a book was specifically purchased for me. How cool is that? It's a high school library, so I browsed their graphic novel section too.

Kitchen Princess (Vol. 1-3) by Natsumi Ando
Chibi Vampire (Vol. 1-3) by Yuna Kagesaki

So, that's what's new this week. But I still have about 20 others checked out. I think I will have to read Once a Witch tonight/tomorrow morning, since it's due tomorrow, and I'm not allowed to renew it again. Perhaps I will get to Going Bovine over the weekend.

And which of the new books should I read first? I welcome suggestions. :)

I request most of my library books online too! But, um, I get more than a dozen. ;)

I didn't like The Eyre Affair all that much the first time I read it, but when I reread it a few years later I loved it! I haven't read any of your loot this week, so I can't help you decide where to start first. Readicide sounds depressing.

Oh, it would be hard not to pick up Leviathan. However, I did manage it. I returned it yesterday unread. *snif* Next time for sure.

I have to read The Eyre Affair next week for a book group. I'm sure I'll like it.

Good loot! And thanks so much for having me on your blogroll. I'm touched! =)

Uses hypnotic voice - 'Leviathan, choose Leviathan'. It really is great. Sad that you didn't finish 'The Eyre Affair', do you think you'll come back to it when you're more in the mood for world building books?

I could have written this post myself! I love the online reservation system...and, yes, it always seems to happen that several hit all at once. Enjoy!

Eva - Good to know that I'm not the only one draining the library. :) And Readicide does sound depressing, but sometimes it's good to read depressing books?

Mama Librarian - I return books unread more often than I'd like. I think I'd be much more inclined to finish The Eyre Affair if it was for a book club. And you're welcome. :)

Jodie - I am leaning towards Leviathan - I just feel compelled to read it. ;) I think I'll definitely go back to The Eyre Affair. I realized that it's one of those books I have to take my time with - and I can definitely read other books while reading this one!

Jill - I don't know what I'd do without it! And I am happy for having so many great books at once. :)

Personally, I'd go with Leviathan. I've been waiting to read that book since I first heard about it! Although I'm also interested in hearing what you think about My Life if France.

I'm currently reading Once a Witch right now. It is good so far so I hope you get the chance to read it. My books always come in at the same time too :)

I felt the same way about The Eyre Affair. It really was fun with the literary stuff, but I got tired of it. I loved Leviathan too, so it gets my vote!

Amy - Leviathan is a popular choice. I've been wanting to read My Life in France for so long, but I think I may have to delay it a little longer.

Samantha - I just finished Once a Witch, and I did like it. It was exactly what I felt like reading at the moment. :)

Melissa - Leviathan seems to be the clear winner! I shall have to start it tomorrow.

Just finished and reviewed The Iron King and loved it, but Going Bovine is one I really need to put on my reserve list too. I love being able to just make a request from the computer too. Also this week I have a stack from out school book fair. I need a second job just to keep me solvent.

Great loot. I hear you about not expecting them to get here all at once and the online reservation system. I love ordering books online from the library but it's too easy. Hence the relooting and not finishing all the books I get!

"The Iron King" was such a quick, inventive twist of faeries -- I really enjoyed it! Still haven't read "Levithan" myself, but I know I will eventually.

Jan - Loved your review of The Iron King. And I just started Going Bovine!

Caitlin - My Life in France is a book that begs to be read outside; I hope the weather cooperates!

Linda - Oh boy, I have books sitting on my desk that I've had checked out for over a month. :x

Katie - I am a fan of all things faerie, so The Iron King is definitely high on my list of books to read!

I have a library addiction too, and my library does exactly the same thing! I am constantly battling to get all the books I have out read!

Every now and again I do buy a book and Going Bovine was one of those! Goodness only knows when I am going to get to read it!

Sorry to hear that The Eyre Affair didn't work for you. I love Fforde's writing, and recently bought his latest book. Again, no idea when I am going to get to read it, but I will eventually!

Enjoy your loot.
